On the occasion of the Italian Research Day in the World, the Italian Embassy in Prague and the Italian Cultural Institute are pleased to present a journey into the meaning that astronomy had in the society and which is reflected in art, architecture and urban planning. In particular, we aim to offer you a special view of the Eternal City. Rome. Second star to the right is a guide which let you to rediscover the Capital of Italy in its ‘celestial’ places: representations of stars, zodiac signs and planets painted and sculpted in the monuments, clocks and sundials in churches and squares and passionate stories linked to many scientists who have been there. The guide is part of a broader project for the dissemination of Astronomy conceived almost 10 years ago, which involved astronomers, communicators and scientific and cultural institutions.
The event will end with the proposal of a walk among the buildings of Prague, which often recall the features of Italian architecture also in reference to the signs of the sky.
Italian Research Day in the World is an initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in collaboration with the Ministry of University and Research, to enhance the contribution of Italian researchers to international science and to promote the dissemination of the results of their research.
