The New Space Economy deeply transformed the space sector and together with “Space on Earth” setting conditions, spread the benefit of space transfer technology and space derived applications for a more cost-effective, efficient and sustainable life. Space race is the next challenge that aspires/promises to bring the majority of humans in space either for travelling or living there. Private companies are competing to make space travel and sub-orbital space tourism easier and more affordable. Countless dreams of zero-gravity somersaults could become a reality in a few decades for many. This new trend impacts modern protocols and training which range from human body adaptation to spacesuits and spacecraft, to ensuring astronauts safety. Private stakeholders will increase. However, private spaceflight is not a new concept. In the United States, commercial companies played a role in the aerospace industry right from the start and this transformation has been accompanied by a strong institutional effort in order to guarantee the roadmap of Human exploration as well as the possibility to enjoy short tourist travel outside the Earth.
The Embassy of Italy is proud to announce the conference of astronaut Colonel Walter Villadei who will present, as a protagonist, the new conditions for „modern“ access to space.
Col. Walter Villadei is an Italian military officer with a master’s degree in aerospace engineering a specialization in astronautical engineering. After training as a cosmonaut at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City (Russia), in 2013 he flew to space on the first Virgin Galactic sub-orbital mission and in 2024, spent 18 days at the International Space Station as part of Axiom Mission 3.
